What is Tamoxifen?

Tamoxifen or Tamoxifen Citrate is a popular anabolic steroid. It is also known by the trade name Nolvadex, as developed by AstraZeneca, a leading pharmaceutical company. It is considered to be one of the most effective SERMs or Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators.  What that means is that Tamoxifen has a strong anti-estrogen effect. In bodybuilding, Tamoxifen plays a big role in Post Cycle Therapy (PCT).

Benefits of Tamoxifen

Tamoxifen is different from other anabolic steroids as it does not have the same fat burning or muscle building effects. But what it does very well is to keep estrogen levels as low as possible.

Often, many male bodybuilders experience an unusually high level of estrogen because of the negative effects of some of the muscle-enhancing steroids they take. Male boobs are the most obvious consequence of this.

Tamoxifen is well known for its anti-estrogen results and is used as a preventive medication by men suffering from an unusual growth of breasts. In other words, if you’re suffering from male boobs, then taking Tamoxifen would be a good idea.

Tamoxifen stimulates the production of testosterone during post cycle therapy. It helps restore the hormonal balance in the aftermath of the steroid phase and ensures that your muscle gains are not lost.

How Does Tamoxifen Work?

Tamoxifen is very effective at blocking the effect of estrogen. This makes it a favored choice of bodybuilders, especially those who take other anabolic steroids such as Dianabol.

Remember: Most steroids are converted into estrogen by the body because of the enzyme aromatase over time, and this can affect the ratio of estrogens to androgens.  This results in side effects such as bloating, caused by high water retention.

When the estrogen levels are too high, fat gets deposited in all the unwanted places, and this could lead to gynecomastia, or the enlargement of male breasts. This really defeats the purpose of bodybuilding.

Tamoxifen helps prevent this by stimulating the production of the follicle stimulating hormone and the luteinizing hormones and inhibits the production of estrogen. That’s why Tamoxifen is often stacked with other steroids.

How to Take Tamoxifen

For stacking up Tamoxifen with an anabolic steroid, to prevent estrogenic effect during the steroid cycle, then take no more than 10 to 20 mg of the drug per day.

If you’re taking this drug during the PCT or post-cycle therapy, then you should take about 40 mg per day for the first two weeks, reduce to 20 mg per day for the next two weeks and finish with 10 mg per day for a week.

If your cycle ends with all small ester base anabolic steroids, you will begin HCG 3 days after your last injection and begin Nolvadex after HCG therapy is complete.
